Alberobello

Day 6

We headed off in the morning by bus through Puglia and onto the Basilicata region. We stopped in Alberobello for a private wine tasting with local hors d'oeuvres at Tholos Concept Store. Afterwards, we explored the town streets, shops, and viewed the historic Trulli houses still inhabited today, and completely unique to the area. Such a magical place.

Off again by bus to the town of Matera known for its 9,000 year old Sassi neighborhoods comprised of ancient cave dwellings. Our stone hotel, Locanda Di San Martino, was an amazing place. The rooms made entirely of stone, modernized, and comfortably decorated. We definitely got the full experience of living in a sassi. We finished the night with a group dinner at Osteria L'Arco.
