Day 5

The weather was not welcoming that day, so we unfortunately had to forgo the boat cruise. However, that didn't deter our group from touring Vieste with a local guide. We wandered though thte streets learning the history of this peaceful coastal town.

In the afternoon, we began our previously arranged pilgrimage to San Giovanni to visit and pray with St. Pio of Pietrecina. Our driver took us down winding roads where we viewed magnificent hidden grottos, shoreline camping sites, and ancient towers along teh seaside. We were taken straight to the steps of the Church of St. John the Baptist located adjacent to the Sanctuary of St. Mary our Lady of Grace, where St. Pio rests.

We toured the church and walked to the modern sanctuary. St. Padre Pio was a Capuchin-friar and Stigmatist. He is known for his deep devotion to prayer, bilocation, and the many miracles he  preformed.
